During this time, the Syrian civil war was going on. This
was a big issue as lots of violence erupted in Syria during this time with mass
protests, deaths and injuries from global reports. Additionally, in the local
scale, Woodford had announced that he was making a book about the scandal and
it would soon be for sale. It was also during this time in 2011 that a major
earthquake and tsunami hit Japan’s northeastern region, which Japan Times
reported. Additionally, seismologists have said that another major earthquake
will hit Japan’s Tokai region in a few years. However, all these stories from a national and
global scale did not affect the controversy significantly.
